Well my fellow Clowns the SPPL California Qualifier was this past weekend up in North fork (TAAG).
The weather was nice and sunny and a bit hot but nothing unbearable like last year. This years line up was better than last years, with 5 teams showing up to compete.
There were 2 Master teams The Chupacabras and Elite Mercs which only had 6 players but played like or as if they had 20. (Which just comes to show that if you have a small tiny little inexperience team you can still compete) The actually took Sportsmanship for their efforts and there "can do" right on attitude. (This was their 1st event)
The California has been the only qualifier to DATE which has had 3 Elite teams attend, they where (Nationally Ranked # 2) rightfully so! FOREST DEMONS, FOREST FIRE who just took # 1 at the Utah Qual and Cal. Gridlocks nemesis last year in 4 back to back to back bouts. (Currently nationally ranked at # 1) and of course everyone’s favorite Infedels/sepretist Team REGIME! A core group of season SPPL Veterans Who proved to be the Key in making the 2008 season opener an exciting event.
Regime is made of player from Caltrop Guerrillas, Spec ops, Bad to the Bone, 5150, the Cartel, and of course the PCP! Although not all of Team Regime members were in attendance they still manage to give Beloved FOREST FIRE a great game coming up short a mere 13 points. (Much, much closer than Last year) 105 Regime to 118 FOREST FIRE Score 0-1-0
The second game was against The Chupacabras! Where the score was 191 Regime, to well actually -9 for the masters second Qual. Score 1-1-0
The Third game was against another Masters Team. Team Elite Mercs were the final score was 16 for the Mercs and 227 for Regime. This team of local players really came out to play and they played with Honor and Integrity again they ONLY had 6 then eventually 7 players on the Roster and still manage to bring it. Score 2-1-0
The Fourth game was the game everyone was waiting for, I was especially looking forward to this bad boy for last year at the Oregon Qualifier the decision was made for me to use speed against them instead of what my full capabilities are. This year a much, much better decision was made and Regime was the ONLY team to give a very well respected FOREST DEMONS their ONLY defeat of the tourney. 112 for FOREST DEMONS to 117 Regime. Score 3-1-0
Semi-finals would go by Divisions Masters vs. Masters and Elites vs. Elites with the highest point leader earning a by into the finals, which would be FOREST DEMONS! The Master division was cut and dry you win your #1 you lose your # 2. With the Elites it would be a Play-off with the winner playing for 1 and 2 respectfully.
Semi-Finals: Team Regime vs. FOREST FIRE! Now this was a game! unfortunately due to our season most player having an over sight, we came up short and allowing 2 unconcealed props (worth 10 points a pop, 20 points total) to be taken by the other side thrusting the score up to 102 FOREST FIRE to 82 Regime! (A difference of 20 points! LOL) FOREST FIRE is a great competitive team and earned every right to play against the best FOREST DEMONS in the finals for 1 and 2.
1. FOREST DEMONS
2. FOREST FIRE
3. REGIME
1. CHUPACABRAS
2. ELITE MERCS also won SPORTSMANSHIP!
TOTAL POINT LEADERS: * = Semi-finals and ** = Finals
1. FOREST DEMONS 704 + **132 = 836
2. TEAM REGIME 640 + *82 = 722
3. FOREST FIRE 590 + *102 + **63= 755
