Ok folks this is privilege information, but will eventually moved out of the back forums.

On Saturday Feb 23, 2008 a group of paintball players made the trek down to Mexico to check out the field for the up coming game on the 22 of March. 2 groups carpooling with a minimum of 4 ppl in each vehicle and with two markers each.

Upon crossing the border the 1st group was signaled to pull over by the inspection station which they did, upon being asked a series of questions on the nature of the visit and their current cargo ALL OF THEIR PAINTBALL EQUIPMENT WAS APPERANTLY CONFICATED! They were instructed to drive to the rear of the facility were their gear was taken from them, this included ALL markers, hoppers, air tanks AND HERES THE KICKER! Their pod packs/harnesses, pods, equipment bags, and clothing related to paintball.

It is MY OPINION that their stuff was stolen! I can maybe understand the markers and maybe the tanks, but the hoppers? And all that other non-marker related stuff? Besides the inspection station NEVER makes you drive to the back and you should get a receipt of the stuffed inventoried.

Well after being threaten of tossed in jail for contraband the quickly turned all their gear over and made a hasty U turn and came right across the border.

The second group didn't have to stop as the 1st group, but upon entering the city limits where immediately pulled over by the local cops and said they had ran a stop sign! The police told them that they could of course FIX the ticket with a little cash! Of course and took the group for $80.00 a head with 6 ppl in the van that's about $480.00 bucks. Well most crooks stop here, but not these guys, while going around collecting money they noticed the gear bags and asked what was in them?

They responded with our personal effects! They asked the nature of the visit and they responded to shop and paintball, they where then told to open up the back and open up the bags!  Once they saw the markers they quickly took possession of them and send them on their not so merry way! Only the markers were taken no hoppers or tanks or personal gear.

These guys were as forgiving as the other group and decided to go to the police station and claim their gear! Upon arrival they were told that No such officers exist and that they should go away and stop lying before being "ARRESTED FOR HARRASMENT" the group took to the warning had a few beers and made the U turn towards the U.S.

Well all of this information came to my via plain blind LUCK! I ran into an old buddy of mine that following Monday 2-25-08 while filling up on gas and we got to talking, he said he was waiting for some buddies from Camp Pendleton and invited me to joined them, they where the ones who had the experience.

I advised them that I would get the word out and to next time file a complaint with U.S. CUSTOMS ASAP! For unless there is a paper trail they would consider it an isolated incident. I am always weary of when I travel down south always having that extra 2-3 hundred stashed away for emergencies.

People who think they know better always say take your drivers license and birth certificate- those people/person are idiots! Anyone can steal your Identity with just those 2 in MEXICO! All they need is the DL# your address on the license which they have your D.O.B and now you have just provided them with a birth certificate. MORONS if they really want they could just shoot you and not even bury you, as they head back across the border or I should say as your new you heads back across the border!

In any event I have made several phone calls included Baja paintball to inform them of these very common and frequent occurrences, they are taking proactive steps to minimize the exposure of such thefts to paintballers and guest alike. So when they contact me or others back with updated information you will know 1st and then the general community.

Stand by for addition detail. Honk Honk!

I got a reply!

Hi Gabriel,

Thanks for the information. I will forward this email to the Secretary of Tourism ASAP. In regards to the driver license and Birth Certificate, this is something that US Customs is requesting. Unfortunely this is something new they have posted.

I agree with you, it is really rediculous especially if you are a US Citizen. Anyways, I want to thank you again for comunicating this information to me. Please let everyone know that we are working on it and that is this happens to anyone while going down to Tijuana, to make sure they write down license plates of the police vechiles, name of police officer, number of badge, time and date and to report it to us immediately. Please provide my phone number and my name Perla Velasco as a point of contact.

I will get back to you with futher information as I receive from the Secretary of Tourism.

I am also currently working with Mexicoach to get complete packages that include transportation, hotel/food if needed. The bus can also take you to a second destiny if desired. Like after the paintball it will take you to rosarito beach or Tijuana/centro or back to san ysidro. I will be posting this information as I get a response from Mexicoach.

Well, I hope all you guys can make it down to the big game on March 22nd. If not, I will keep in touch.

Thanks,
Perla

Ok guys this is the current scoop on this matter, I have been working with Perla of Baja paintball to further ensure the safety of paintball players who will be travelling down south of the border. She has taken proactive steps to resolve this matter and I will continue on my end to get additional information and details.

Even though I am not part of the organization, I found it important enough to share and Warn players travelling of a "potential Hazard" while in Mexico. By notifying the Field promoters them selves they have taken many proactive steps to try and ensure your safety as well as your expensive gear. Baja paintball has the players intrest in mind and will do what it needs to, ensure your satisfaction and over experience.

Again I nor my teammates are affiliated with Baja Paintball, this is just a "Special Announcement from the Emergency Broadcast System" to ensure your safety and that of your gear, If you have any questions of concerns Please feel free to contact Baja paintball, they have remedies in place due to this matter and are looking to expand those remedies for you and yours.

Looking out for the Paintball community on Both sides of the Border! The Psycho Clown Posse

This is very disconcerting. In those situations I would have given up my stuff as well, but I would have gotten all thier information and headed straight to the police station to complain. The paintball field down their would be wise to have mexicoach pick players up on the US side in the tourbus, then take them directly to the field, then back again. That is the best way to handle it.
